Park Back to Give Opportunities to Young Players

Seoul - Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung, said Monday that he quit the South Korean national team to provide opportunity to young players of potential.

Park which has 100 times contributed to South Korean national team and always entered a team for the World Cup, officially withdrew after ensuring national coach Cho Kwang-Rae announced on Friday.

But the 29-year-old player did not have plans to retire from professional football and still think to play football at least three to four years.

"I announced back to open wide the door for young players because the players are juniors should grow to replace me," he said.

"As we saw during the Asian Cup, South Korea there are some young players with huge potential and talent such as Ja-Cheol Koo, Ji Dong-Won and Son Heung-Min," he added.

"Like when I get a chance to flourish in the 2002 World Cup, I think it's important to give junior players the chance to become the next generation," he said.

Park is experiencing pain in his right knee after a serious surgery twice and said it was one factor for his decision to resign.

She states have a problem with the distance from England to South Korea on a trip, but said it did not even think to refuse to play for his country.

"I think without my health problems could continue an international career, but I have to accept this situation and have no regrets," he added.

He says no plans to return to international football to join the World Cup in Brazil next.

"If the South Korean team will go to the 2014 World Cup, then the young players who will participate, because they have a chance to play," he said.

"My departure will help the young players to show their talents and their abilities during the Asian Cup is a preparation for the upcoming World Cup."
